ERM Japan is seeking a motivated Managing Consultant who is interested in participating on a variety of projects covering the full spectrum of ERM’s services. The role will be based in Yokohama or Tokyo, Japan.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in EH&S Regulatory & Compliance Service and Due diligence environmental site assessment
- Lead complex due diligence consulting engagements involving multi-site portfolios and multi-person project teams nationally and globally. Work with clients and other professional advisors, including lawyers and financial advisors, to find solutions to transaction-driven environmental issues, including EHS (Environment, health & safety) compliance, remediation, portfolio issues, liability cost estimating, and post-merger integration.
- Project management of large and medium sized projects
- Actively develop new business and work with colleagues on proposals and cost estimation
- Project work in the field and in the office
- Cooperation with subcontractors and conclusion of contracts
- Participate in projects including but not limited to EHS and social audits, due diligence assessments, Phase I ESA, regulatory review and advisory services conducting;
- Document review.
- Conducting site visit.
- Meeting with client and relevant parties; and
- Writing reports.
- Meet business targets (financial and more importantly safety), overall project budget and schedule, client satisfaction/expectations, and internal and contract requirements. Keep up to date with EHS regulations locally and international standards.
- Work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment to build ERM’s global business, as well as to lead client and practice teams. Leverage the Mergers & Acquisitions role to provide services related to site remediation, EHS compliance, management systems, outsourcing, and integration support, among others.
- Build, grow, and manage a high-performance team in Japan office, serving as a team leader and mentor to consultants. Identify emerging talent and work with them to reach their full potential; ensure rising stars are nurtured, developed and given new areas of responsibility.
- Drive innovation within the practice to stay ahead of client needs and to differentiate ERM in the market, particularly around ESG (environment/ social/ governance) topics.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years’ progressive experience in a consulting environment, or a related, equivalent field, working at a high-level with corporate, financial, and legal clients; preferably with chemical, manufacturing, power, infrastructure and/or technology sector experience
- Well-versed in environmental risk, environmental compliance, health & safety compliance, and remediation liabilities as they relate to transaction agreements
- Native level Japanese in reading, writing a
- Must be fluent in English, reading, writing and conversation
- 5+ years project management experience
- Demonstrable track record in delivering over half of million-dollar sales results annually, including successfully winning large and strategic portfolios. Preferably experience with cross-border transactions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a discipline such as environmental science, environmental engineering, safety engineering, etc.
