The Role
We are seeking to engage an Engineering Manager to join our team in Batam. In this role you’ll be responsible for coordinating technical teams, driving innovation, and maintaining high-quality outcomes throughout project lifecycles. Familiarity with local languages, standards, and cultural nuances in Southeast Asia is a valuable asset, enabling seamless collaboration with regional stakeholders.
You’ll be leading a team of engineers in the detailed design of the multibillion-dollar renewable project, which is currently at pre-FEED stage.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops, executes and revises project work plans as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements, ensuring that they are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Involved in the vendor selection process, and in reviewing and evaluating their proposals. Reviews and evaluates internal capability to determine if there is any need for sub-contracting.
- Selects, guides and develops a team of project professionals/superintendents with operational responsibilities to ensure project deliverables are completed on time and within budget as per set goals, and in compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.
- Ensures that the teams have proper monitoring and control strategies and action plans to
- manage their project costs elements so that they do not overrun the project budget.
- Works with the Project/Construction Manager/Representative to develop detail plans to maximize available material, human resources, and existing structure and processes to ensure that the team’s overall resources are used effectively and project deadlines are met.
- Oversee and manage the technical execution of large-scale, multi-disciplinary engineering projects with support from a panel of engineering leads across disciplines to ensure seamless integration and project delivery.
- Ensures compliance with local regulations, standards, and best practices, while driving innovation in engineering solutions.
- Conducts regular and ad-hoc meetings with project team and clients to review project progress, highlight critical issues/changes, review operational efficiencies, improve workflows and processes, share knowledge, provide guidance and to resolve problems in a timely manner, so that efficiency and productivity are maximized.
- Ensures timely reporting to higher management on project’s progress and obtains management’s necessary guidance and/or approvals for complex issues or any major changes.
- Performs site visit to evaluate situation for bidding, coordinating with engineers and designer on engineering drawings to ensure that they comply with specifications & client’s requirements.
- Prepares tender proposals for bidding
- Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations to management or clients communicating with them effectively on project proposals. Assists/leads in commercial negotiations/proposals.
About You
Suitable applicants will be/have:
- Degree in any related Engineering discipline
- 10 years of relevant experience in a managerial position preferably in the renewable industry
- Expertise in integrating renewable energy solutions such as solar, wind, or storage systems into engineering designs
- The ability to speak Mandarin / Bahasa is an added advantage
- Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory bodies in Southeast Asia
- Experience in managing large engineering panels or consortia for complex projects
