Description/Job Summary
The position will directly support projects in the Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) in scientific, engineering, and technical analyses. The position will primarily support GTO's Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) portfolio. This research focuses on improving the technologies and overall reservoir performance of high-temperature (> 150C), low-permeability (sub-mD) subsurface geothermal systems and expanding technology deployment through field-based demonstration opportunities. Expertise in hydrothermal reservoir systems, hydraulic fracture mechanics, well construction, well completions design and/or subsurface reservoir management would be strongly desired.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide project management, performance monitoring, documentation, and progress assessment for GTO-funded RD&D projects including the following:
- Negotiating new award packages.
- Tracking of award research progress (scope, schedule, and budget) through quarterly report review.
- Reviewing and providing input to interim project deliverables and final technical reports.
- Coordination, communication, and meeting preparation/scheduling with internal and external stakeholders in support of GTO-sponsored project success.
- Processing award modifications using a variety of government systems.
- Merit review of submitted research proposals/funding applications.
- Support the development, coordination, and management of competitive solicitations and merit reviews.
- Engage with GTO stakeholders on an appropriate level to ensure needs and gaps are being addressed where possible at the Federal level.
- Assist in the development of internal briefing materials for decision makers and contribute technical review of external communications.
- Successfully represent the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia, and industry partners.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline (Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Renewable Energy, Energy Systems, etc.)
- 3+ years of subsurface reservoir, drilling, completions, and/or operations experience
- Client/stakeholder relations
- Professional attitude
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
- Demonstrated independent problem-solving skills
- Ability to balance multiple long- and short-term projects with competing priorities
- Familiar with geothermal technologies
- Authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions, U.S. Citizen, or Permanent US Resident
- Ability to attain and maintain a U.S. Security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in geothermal reservoir systems, drilling/well construction, well completion design, reservoir characterization, and production/injection operations is strongly desired
- Project management experience/PMP certification is a plus
- Ability to actively track and monitor government-funded research and development projects
- Experience working within DOE EERE
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter, an ability to work both independently and as part of a highly dynamic collaborative team
