Fixed-term for six months from February 2025
The Centre of African Studies, in collaboration with colleagues from Edinburgh Earth Initiative (EEI), are looking for a postgraduate or PhD student to contribute to supporting the 2025 Annual Conference of the Centre of African Studies, named ‘Climate Dynamics and the Politics of a Post-Carbon Africa.’ The project aims to create a briefing pack for conference participants and speakers, support online and on-campus events to promote the conference, and create a report that maps out the key themes of the conference and use these as the starting point to identify pathways for climate action in Africa.

This post will be appointed at Grade UE07, step 1 which is £40,247 Per Annum Pro Rata (£22.11 per hour)
Your skills and attributes for success:
• Current University of Edinburgh PhD or postgraduate student in the academic year ‘24/’25.
• An interest in sustainable energy transitions in Africa, especially in a socio-technical and political context.
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate complex information clearly, both in writing and in oral presentations.
• Ability to assimilate information from multiple sources and report on it effectively.
• Ability to work proactively with colleagues and external collaborators with a variety of expertise; understanding and valuing different points of view and building consensus.
• Some experience with academic conferences, either as a contributor or organiser.
