JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (OCAO) with one vacancy in either Silver Spring, MD; Boulder, CO; Seattle, WA. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Safety and Occupational Health Manager, you will perform the following duties: - Provide authoritative technical guidance and advice to senior management, scientists, and staff regarding risks and potential impacts to safety and occupational health programs. Monitor approaches to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of safety and occupational health programs. Develop, recommend, and implement policies or procedures to improve safety and occupational health programs. - Manage safety and occupational health hazards such as complex hazardous chemical, biological and radiological materials used in research. Assess hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions and develop measures to eliminate or control these conditions and effectively communicate the appropriate measures to resolve these problems. Execute formal investigations of reportable and non-reportable mishaps involving personal injury accidents, property damage, and cases of occupational illnesses covering a wide range of work operations. - Review plans and specifications for new construction, major building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment and monitor through completion to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards. Ensure facilities comply with all applicable environmental, safety, and health regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
