About Us

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1960 to promote research in atmospheric and related environmental sciences. A consortium of more than 60 universities, UCAR provides real-time weather data to universities, educates weather forecasters, and organizes international experiments through its Office of Programs. The organization also maintains radars, aircraft, and computer models for weather and climate through the National Center for Atmospheric Research. UCAR is funded by sponsors such as the National Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and NASA.
