We are seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to oversee the health and safety compliance of a solar plant installation project in De Aar, South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with local safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with South African regulations (OHSA, SANS, and other applicable standards).
Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify potential hazards.
Ensure all employees and contractors adhere to safety protocols and use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions.
Conduct regular safety training, toolbox talks, and induction sessions for site personnel.
Work closely with site managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure safety measures are integrated into daily operations.
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations for renewable energy projects.
Prepare and submit safety reports, maintaining accurate records of inspections, incidents, and training.
Liaise with local authorities, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies on safety matters.
Promote a strong safety culture across the workforce.

Requirements:

Relevant diploma/degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
Registered with SACPCMP as a Safety Officer (advantageous).
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a safety role within the mining, construction or renewable energy sector.
Strong knowledge of South African safety legislation, ISO standards, and best practices for solar installations.
Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and site audits.
Ability to deliver safety training and awareness programs.
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-risk environment.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote sites.

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

Experience working on large-scale solar or renewable energy projects.
Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability standards.
First Aid & Firefighting Certification is an advantage.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
