About Us
You won't find Steve Martin at the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), but the agency is all about planes, trains, and automobiles. The IDOT plans, constructs, and maintains Illinois' transportation network, including its highways and bridges, airports, public transit, rail freight, and rail passenger systems. Specifically, it provides capital, operating, and technical support to some 50 public transit systems; implements programs promoting air safety and airport construction; and regulates crash reporting, hazardous materials transportation, vehicle inspection, motor carrier safety, school bus construction, and motorcycle rider training. It has an annual budget of about $19 billion.
