Introduction

Location: Pretoria East (Hybrid – Gauteng preferred)
Candidates should ideally be based in Gauteng, as the team works from a Pretoria East office a few days per week.

Seeking a versatile and analytically strong Engineering professional (non-software/data) to translate operational data into actionable insights within mining and industrial environments.

This role is specifically suited to candidates with a core engineering background (Mechanical, Metallurgical, Industrial, or Chemical) who enjoy working with operational data but are not purely software or data engineers.

The focus is on analysing operational performance, interpreting engineering data, and advising on optimisation opportunities across mining and processing operations.

This is not a narrow specialist role. The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable, and comfortable working across multiple engineering disciplines, including mining operations, mineral processing, equipment performance, and operational reliability.

Important:

This role is NOT suited to Software Engineers, Data Engineers, or purely IT-focused profiles
Candidates must have a core engineering foundation aligned to mining/industrial environments
Professional Registration (Advantageous):
- ECSA (Pr Eng or EIT)

Duties & Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Operational Insight

Analyse operational datasets from mining operations, processing plants, and equipment systems
Interpret production, process, and maintenance data to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
Work with data from plant historians, SCADA systems, fleet management systems, and maintenance records
Identify trends related to throughput, recovery, availability, downtime, and equipment performance

Engineering Interpretation

Translate operational data into practical engineering insights and recommendations
Review technical reports and extract key implications for operational improvement
Assist stakeholders in understanding drivers behind performance variability and production losses

Advisory & Stakeholder Support

Provide advisory support based on analytical findings
Develop recommendations to improve plant performance, mining productivity, and equipment reliability
Participate in workshops reviewing operational performance and improvement initiatives

Performance & Optimization Reporting

Produce clear, concise analytical reports
Support development of performance dashboards and reporting tools
Assist in tracking and measuring improvement initiatives

Cross-Disciplinary Analysis

Work across multiple domains, including:

Mining production
Mineral processing
Equipment reliability and maintenance
Fleet and operational performance

Integrate insights across systems to form a holistic view of operations.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) degree from a recognised University

Preferred disciplines:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Chemical Engineering

Experiece:
At least 2-8 years of relevant work experience

Technical Competencies

Strong capability in analysing operational and engineering datasets
Experience working with industrial data sources (e.g. plant historians, SCADA, fleet management, maintenance systems)
Proficiency in Advanced Excel and Power BI (or similar tools)
Exposure to Python or similar tools is advantageous, but not a core requirement
Understanding of key operational metrics (throughput, recovery, availability, utilisation, downtime)
Ability to interpret engineering data within an operational context
Experience with root cause analysis and performance optimisation techniques
Ability to integrate multiple data sources into a cohesive operational view
Experience developing reports and dashboards for decision-making
