We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Decarbonization Engineer to join our Business Strategy Department as a technology strategist and project manager focused on collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on research and assessments of a variety of technology families within the Energy Efficiency and Building Decarbonization portfolios.

As a member of the Energy Solutions team, you will have a broad impact on state and local markets within California through our work for the three electric Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs), Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs) and Regional Energy Networks (RENs) as well as regional and state agencies and other national leaders in emerging technologies. The candidate selected to fill this position will have experience in an array of technologies with deep technical expertise in HVAC, refrigeration, and other mechanical systems common in residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. This includes a comprehensive understanding of equipment efficiency and building / system design interactions to achieve enhanced energy performance. Technologies of particular importance include but are not limited to: heat pump technologies (including air-source heat pumps, hydronic heat pumps, and variable refrigerant flow systems), energy and heat recovery systems, dedicated outdoor air systems, refrigeration systems, motor driven systems (including high performance fans and pumps and air distribution system design), low global warming potential refrigerants, thermal energy storage, and load management / demand flexibility. A track record of successful emerging technologies assessment and stakeholder engagement is helpful, including experience with manufacturers and other supply chain actors, technology assessments, market research, and outreach with technology market actors.

Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop and lead both short-term and long-term strategies to optimize energy savings, load management potential, and GHG reductions through emerging technology research projects or other market studies
Analyze the savings, costs, and other impacts of energy efficient and low carbon technologies in the context of energy policy and emerging market trends
Oversee product testing and other primary data collection strategies needed to fill data gaps in emerging technology research
Participate in industry working groups and technical committees in support of technology families and/or end-use categories
Develop strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure emerging technology studies address identified market barriers and have ample stakeholder support
Write reports on technical topics, such as technology research, including energy savings analyses, cost-effectiveness analyses, and market impacts analyses, technology dissemination, and technology transfer
Develop and deliver presentations on technical topics to a variety of audiences, including utility/program administrators, , program implementers, technology companies, research organizations, government agency decision makers, engineers, and other stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical engineering preferred)
A minimum of 10 years of engineering or work experience in related area

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in engineering and/or PE license (mechanical engineering preferred)
At least 12 years of engineering or work experience in related area
Experience in conducting primary or secondary research on various technology families including HVAC, Plug Loads & Appliances, Process Loads, Water Heating and Whole Building
Experience in the development process of California’s Title 20, US DOE’s Appliance Standards Program, EPA’s Energy Star Program, or other state, national, or international appliance or equipment standards efforts.
Excellent verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to write reports, technical papers, and provide technical presentations to knowledgeable audiences
Experience representing large organizations in public meetings, including government hearings
Track record of success working in collaborative roles with diverse teams of partners and industry stakeholders
Existing network of professional contacts that contribute to emerging technologies research
Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges to support our company’s mission
Willingness to conduct occasional business travel

Compensation is commensurate with experience within the pay bands of $110,000 - $135,000/Annually
