It's a city, it's a port, it's Long Beach. The City of Long Beach boasts the busiest port on the West Coast and the top container port in the nation. It's 3,400-slip city marina is the largest municipally run marina in the country and home to the Queen Mary, a city-owned floating hotel. The city uses a charter form of government with an elected mayor and city council, as well as an appointed city manager. Its known for its large oil reserves; the Long Beach Gas & Oil Department is responsible for injecting more than 45 million gallons of water into the ground daily to maintain elevation where oil is extracted. Long Beach has a budget of about $2.5 billion for a population of around 492,000.
