Environmental Health & Safety Director (EHS) GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION The Environmental Health & Safety Director (EHS) is responsible to ensure the creation of all general company safety practices, processes the communication and training of such rules and regulations and partners with company Risk Management and Business Operations leadership to be in compliance. This position assists in company compliance with all agency (DOT, OSHA, NFPA, DEA, and EPA) regulations, training, and any other requirements by such agencies, insurance companies, and company departments. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS 1. Establishes and leads a strong behavioral based company safety program; reviews and discuses safety needs, provides updates, training, DOT, Hazmat, OSHA and related safety and compliance information. 2. Provides subject matter expertise ensuring industry best practice is followed. 3. Partners with company Risk Management, Engineering, Facilities Maintenance and Business Operations leadership to assist in all locations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements. 4. Site inspections and corrective action(s): Trains and directs management to inspect facilities, work sites and equipment for violations and hazards. Provides direction to leadership on correcting identified problems in a timely manner. Follows-up to make sure all corrective actions are taken and completed; assists where needed. Responsible for updating, maintaining and auditing location safety standards and procedures on a quarterly basis, or as needed. Facilitates the investigation of all accidents to determine the root cause and provides recommendations that eliminate or reduce future hazard or risk. Tracks and controls inventory of safety supplies and equipment and works with leadership to keep adequate safety supplies on-hand. Assists with training for new hires and provides ongoing training of all associates. Reviews and updates GHS plans and JHA’s plans as needed. Evaluates the effectiveness of the safety program using established goals and makes recommendations, and implements corrective action(s) based on industry standards and best practices. Conducts annual training for Bozzuto’s Leadership that promotes a safe, healthy, and secure work environment that includes emergency situations (like tornados, fires), use of the alarm system, and anything else necessary to promote a safe work environment. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS Serves as a safety/compliance liaison with outside organizations (as needed). Partners with Distribution, Risk Management, Human Resources, Engineering and Security Leadership to ensure workplace safety is a primary Company value. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS NEEDED Extensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, EPA, other governmental regulations and laws including OSHA 300 logs and requirements by our insurance providers, as well as, knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques. Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field or equivalent work experience. Experience in an industrial setting involving powered industrial trucks, hazardous chemicals, and over-the-road vehicles. 5+ years safety management experience. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills. Knowledge of statistics, data collection and analysis. Knowledge of federal and state regulations. Proficient in MS Office products. Prefer: OSHA General Industry 10 or 30 hour training course. PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED Standing and walking on concrete. Working in refrigerated and non-refrigerated environments ranging in temperatures from -20 Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Occasional travel required.
