The position will involve:

Providing legal advice to internal clients across the company, with a particular focus on Environmental Remediation, Environmental Operations, Environmental Permitting, and HazMat.
Reviewing, drafting and leading the negotiation of consent decrees or administrative settlements with a variety of Federal and State Agencies.
Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating environmental provisions in documents associated with real estate transactions and in contracts for goods and services.
Proactively identifying risk to the company and creatively finding ways to minimize the risk.
Researching and resolving general environmental matters affecting the company and the various operating subsidiaries of the company.
Handling environmental litigation, including choosing appropriate outside counsel, overseeing their work, and handling cases in-house when appropriate.

Basic Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will have substantial general environmental law expertise:

Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited Law School with strong academic record.
A current active Bar Law License.
7 plus years of experience focused on general environmental legal matters, with general knowledge of the CAA, NEPA, CERCLA, RCRA, and the CWA.
Excellent legal analytical, research, verbal and written communication and advocacy skills.
Knowledge of Lexis research system and web-based legal research tools, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to handle multiple complex and challenging assignments and projects in a timely and efficient manner.
Ability to interact professionally, effectively, and diplomatically with Federal and State Agencies and Community Environmental Justice Representatives.
Commitment to Environmental compliance and excellence.
Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time and/or based on business need.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong working knowledge of NEPA and associated legal issues a plus.
Experience in facility and infrastructure permitting, particularly in the transportation/logistics industry.
Experience with both stationary and mobile sources, particularly in the transportation/logistics industry.
Experience or knowledge of HazMat issues and regulatory agency oversight of HazMat response.
Exhibit deep subject matter expertise in U.S. environmental regulations, permitting and compliance enforcement matters, experience in environmental due diligence and remediation projects, as well as real estate transactions and commercial leasing matters.
Experience working with or as part of federal and state environmental regulatory authorities
