About Us

Amherst College offers some 800 courses leading to bachelor's degrees in more than 30 areas of study. The college has more than 195 full-time faculty members and an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students. Amherst is a member of the Five Colleges, a consortium with nearby Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; students can take classes at any of the five schools. Founded in 1821, Amherst operates with an endowment of more than $1.7 billion. Amhearst College should not be confused with the nearby University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
