Our client in the renewable energy sector is looking for a HSE Officer to join their team, the ideal candidate would be based in Cape Town but willing to travel for extended periods of time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular site audits to ensure compliance with HSE regulations.
- Collaborate with managers to optimize working practices through comprehensive risk assessments and effective HSE management systems.
- Facilitate in-house HSE training for all relevant personnel.
- Foster a positive health and safety culture while minimizing environmental impact.
- Assist in performing risk assessments and developing method statements, advising on measures to mitigate risks.
- Support Line Managers in identifying training needs to maintain HSE compliance.
- Ensure thorough recording and investigation of incidents, accidents, complaints, and environmental issues, with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct investigations to identify the causes of HSE breaches on site.
- Work with the Executive Committee, Line Managers, and Supervisors to uphold HSE policies and procedures.
- Liaise with industry bodies and organizations to promote best practices in occupational health, safety, and welfare.
- Provide guidance and support to Line and Project Managers regarding workplace assessments and modifications for staff returning from illness or injury, ensuring adherence to local legislation.
- Assist the team in daily operations concerning HSE compliance.
- Lead and support HSE initiatives, campaigns, and awareness projects.
- Prepare and submit monthly HSE reports.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements:
- Registration with SACPCMP.
- Valid South African Driver’s License (Code 08).
- Medically fit.
- Willingness to travel frequently for site audits and HSE training.
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a safety officer.
- Experience in auditing and incident investigation with strong problem-solving skills.
Skills:
- Excellent report writing and presentation abilities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office at an intermediate level.
- In-depth knowledge of local HSE legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Construction Regulations.
- A valid SAMTRAC and/or NEBOSH certificate is advantageous.
