JOB SUMMARY: These positions are located in Blue Ridge Parkway, in the Maintenance and Engineering Division. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 12/20/2024 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration. MAJOR DUTIES: Major Duties: The incumbents serve as a Maintenance Worker for the Blue Ridge Parkway. This recruitment is currently for hiring at four duty stations including: Big Island, Virginia, Bedford, Virginia, Asheville, North Carolina and Balsam, North Carolina. The primary purpose of the position is to assist journey-level, or other higher graded maintenance workers under general supervision in general landscaping and grounds maintenance, basic carpentry, simple electrical installations or repairs, basic plumbing work, and painting interior and exterior surfaces, and perform a variety of janitorial services. Removes trash and debris from roadway and road sites. Operates farm type tractors and associated attachments used to mow maintained roadside landscape areas. Operates trucks up to 1-ton to pick up supplies, transport materials to and from work site, picking up materials from local vendors, or plowing snow as needed. Big Island, Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the James River Maintenance Area, which is located in Big Island, Virginia (Bedford County), approximately 20 miles from Lynchburg, Virginia. Bedford County boasts the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north, Smith Mountain Lake to the south, Lynchburg to the east, and Roanoke to the west. Peaks of Otter/Bedford, Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Peaks of Otter Maintenance Area, which is located in Bedford, Virginia. Bedford boasts the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north, Smith Mountain Lake to the south, Lynchburg to the east, and Roanoke to the west. Asheville, North Carolina - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Oteen Maintenance Area, which is located in Asheville, North Carolina. Jackson County, North Carolina - The duty station is located at the Balsam Gap Maintenance Compound, which is near the city limits of Waynesville, NC.
