Position Title: Mechanic
Reports To: Operations Facilities Manager
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Safety-Sensitive: This is a safety-sensitive position. Candidates, regardless of whether they are a medical marijuana licensee, must receive a negative result on a 10-panel, pre-placement drug screening to include THC, prior to beginning work.
Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc. (TZMI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of “Connecting, Caring, Advocating for Wildlife, People, and Wild Places.” A dynamic group of passionate individuals brings the zoo to life each day, 365 days per year, caring for animals, greeting guests, educating the public and managing the facilities. Position Summary:
This position is responsible for supervision, maintenance, and upkeep of TZMI vehicles including electric and gas-powered golf carts, attractions, and heavy equipment. Assists with projects and priorities of the Operations Department as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned in keeping with the mission of Tulsa Zoo Management, Inc. (TZMI)
- Inspects zoo automobiles, trucks, golf carts, attractions, and related equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary repair.
- Performs general repair work on gasoline, diesel and electric-powered engines such as golf carts, automobiles, trucks, tractors, attractions, and other automotive and mechanical equipment with the goals of minimizing downtime and saving repair costs.
- Performs preventive maintenance work on fleet and attractions according to preset preventative maintenance schedule. Works with Operations Manager to make changes to preventative maintenance schedule as required or recommended.
- Maintains service/maintenance records of vehicles, attractions, and equipment.
- Inspects, adjusts, and replaces necessary units and related parts.
- Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tunes engines using standard testing equipment.
- Performs vehicle body work and collision repair.
- Operates vehicles and equipment to aid in diagnostics; picks up and delivers vehicles.
- Requisition supplies, parts and equipment; monitor inventory; picks up supplies; load and unload supplies.
- Maintains clean and clutter-free work areas.
- Responds to emergency maintenance requests as directed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct reports.

Qualifications
Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver license and be insurable on TZMI’s automobile insurance. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
No education requirement; one to three years related experience and/or training.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees of TZMI and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.
Computer Skills
Microsoft programs preferred; Internet Browser(s)- Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc. required.
Other Skills, Abilities or Qualifications
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable on TZMI’s insurance carrier. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight stays as required. Must have broad knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair; principles and practices of gasoline and diesel engine repair and maintenance; and methods and techniques of welding and fabrication.
