Position Description:
The Environmental Coordinator position is housed within the Environmental Department under the Fisheries Program. The incumbent will support the planning, development and implementation of projects and programs focused primarily on the management of fisheries important to the subsistence rights of the Qawalangin Tribe. Additional tasks in support of other environmental programs and partner organizations may be required.
Location: Unalaska
Reports to: Fisheries Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain regular and open communication with coworkers, Tribal Council, Tribal members, and partner organizations.
- Conduct work through the lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion on behalf of Qawalangin Tribal members.
- Maintain existing and develop new partnerships and projects with the Ounalashka Corporation, regional organizations, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and university researchers.
- Provide oversight to the subsistence management and salmon weir projects, under the direct guidance of the Fisheries Manager.
- Assist in field activities relating to the operation of the McLees Lake and/or Iliuliuk Creek weirs
- Provide support to assist weir crews in the summer at either location as needed.
- Attend meetings, conferences, trainings, and workshops in support of program development and staff capacity building.
- Assist in developing grant applications, work plans, program budgets, and other documents as required by the program.
- Assist in preparation of reporting (especially technical reports) required by funding entities and organizational partners.
- Perform all other appropriate duties assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to build and maintain positive relationships with Tribal, community and staff members.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be sensitive to community cultural values.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Must have an Alaska Driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 90 days of working for the Tribe.
- Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
- Preference, not required, for an applicant with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Fisheries, or a related field. Minimum of one year's relevant work experience may be substituted for a college degree.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 365 programs, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.

Compensation: This position is term regular full-time, non-exempt, non-supervisory with a salary range of $66,560 to $76,960 . Employer paid employee health, dental, vision, short and long-term disabilities, life insurance as outlined in the plan benefits; 2% employer contribution to an IRA; paid time off accrued at .10 per hour worked.
