MNS is hiring an Environmental Practice Lead / Principal to expand our CEQA/NEPA services throughout California. This position has the option of being remote (with the ability to be in an office when necessary), or hybrid (sharing time between one of the nine California offices and home).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
MNS Engineers is seeking a self-driven, results-oriented Environmental Practice Lead to direct the expansion of our Environmental Services Practice throughout California. Reporting to the Planning and Community Development Business Unit Lead, the Practice Lead will be responsible for client engagement, leadership, strategic planning, staff development and business development within the MNS Planning and Community Development team. Job duties include:
- Work with company leadership to create and manage business and staffing plans and achieve performance goals for the Environmental Services team to grow market share in California.
- Work with the Business Development/Marketing team to reestablish contacts upon joining MNS, build new relationships, and track upcoming opportunities with existing and prospective clients to build a steady and growing pipeline and backlog
- Lead environmental compliance projects as a Project Manager or technical specialist, overseeing CEQA/NEPA documents and related technical studies Guide and oversee staff in technical, management, leadership, and client service skill sets
- Ensure the MNS Environmental Services team excels both technically and financially by overseeing project performance and maintaining high standards in proposal and work product quality
- Actively engage with the Planning and Environmental Services industry, contributing innovative ideas, participating in industry associations, and establishing yourself as a recognized contributor and leader
- Drive performance by managing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) outlined in the annual business plan, ensuring we meet or surpass our financial targets for the year
- Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to lead and represent the Environmental Services team. They should possess a positive attitude and a genuine passion for serving others, supporting staff at all levels. The candidate should be enthusiastic about collaborating with peers across MNS Business Units in a dynamic work environment, sharing clients, industry intelligence, and support existing projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Licenses Required:
- B.A./B.S. in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or other related fields
- Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is highly desirable
- Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues
- Valid California Driver’s License
Minimum Experience Required:
- 10+ years in similar positions with increasing responsibilities
- 7+ years managing projects
- 3+ years of experience leading team members

- Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and respectfully with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others
- Proven experienced in business development and marketing with demonstrated success
