This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Vice President Hydrogeologist to join our Pacific Northwest Environmental Remediation and Water Resources Team. You will support our project delivery and growth in multiple market sectors and will work closely with a team of scientists and engineers in the Redmond, WA or Portland, OR office and other Pacific Northwest office locations (and beyond). Our ideal candidate will be a significant contributor both with strategy and delivery on a team providing project and client management services for hydrogeologic characterization, environmental investigations, water resources assessment, and operational water management.
Your Impact
- Lead environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
- Ensure analysis of literature, data, laboratory samples, and other sources of information uncovers primary, secondary, and tertiary chemical impacts.
- Providing technical expertise and/or support for geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, hydrogeologic testing, geologic and hydrogeologic visualization, analytical and numerical groundwater flow modeling, contaminated sites investigations, and development of conceptual site models.
- Develop action plans for larger-scale pollution, corrosion, hazardous waste, and environmental control programs.
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work.
- Participate in the application for environmental permits to address issues or concerns and with undertaking any resulting corrective strategies.
- Project management and regulatory agency communications, with responsibilities appropriate to the level of experience of the individual
- Proposal writing and maintaining/developing client relationships to ensure project delivery and generation or repeat business.
- Classify contaminated soil or environmental materials such as hazardous waste and provide guidance in their disposal.
- Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
- Develop a client base for providing high level environmental risk assessment services including identifying additional business development opportunities.
- Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
- Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geosciences or closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of experience working as a Geologist.
- Highly proficient with analytical geology concepts, research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.
- Project management experience with mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
- Knowledge of best practices for site investigations/characterization (e.g., logging boreholes; designing, installing, and developing wells; and environmental site assessment) and sampling procedures (e.g., soil, water, soil gas, air, and hazardous waste).
- Well-defined experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.
- Well-defined experience with UST investigations and remediation including investigation of hydro-carbon impacted sites.
- Proven experience and success working in the remediation, water resources and/or mining industries.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulatory programs ( e.g. MTCA, RCRA, CERCLA).
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
- Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
- Well-defined experience with evaluation of vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas per DTSC and EPA guidelines.?
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior project experience in the Pacific Northwest is highly desired.
- A Master’s Degree in environmental science/hydrogeology, geology, geosciences, or similar field.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, ArcGIS, MODFLOW, R, Python, etc.
- Strong project management experience of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with environmental statistics and site closure strategies is highly desired.
- Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Professional Geologist (PG) and/or Licensed Hydrogeologist ( LHg ) and/or Certified Water Rights Examiner (CWRE).
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing junior staff.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER health and safety training.

Expected Salary: $136,400 - $195,300
