ABOUT THIS POSITION

Community Organizers are responsible for our community outreach and education with the goal of raising awareness and inviting community members to join the clean energy revolution through a mix of canvassing and event attendance.  This is a seasonal role from spring through summer - with the possibility to stay on longer as supported by needs. Local organizing work involves anything and everything—including knocking on doors, showing up at farmers’ markets and festivals, hosting a community discussion, partnering with a local business, and otherwise engaging communities wherever they are...including online!All in all, SunCommon’s team of Organizers is responsible for generating the homeowner interest that keeps the rest of the SunCommon team busy assessing homes, designing systems, and selling solar and other renewable energy solutions.The success of this Organizer’s work will be measured by their ability to drive leads that convert to visits, their ability to learn how to qualify high-propensity neighborhoods and quality leads, and their ability to create engaging educational messaging to homeowners and event attendees.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drive leads through a mix of community outreach activities, primarily focused on canvassing and supplemented with community events.
  • Speak with poise and presence in front of an audience.
  • Effective time management and responsibility prioritization since much of the work is done independently, in the community.
  • Highly adaptable - able to troubleshoot strategically and make things happen.
  • Develop and implement new strategies to engage community members and manage event recruitment.


Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • At least one year experience in political organizing, canvassing, sales, or fundraising.
  • Goal-oriented. Attuned to key metrics and driven to deliver.
  • Demonstrated grit and persistence.
  • Skill with public speaking and community relations.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media including digital community building, influencer networking, and content curation.
  • An infectious passion for re-energizing our state with renewable power.
  • A flexible schedule. A willingness to meet with solar homeowners and community leaders and to do event work, typically 12 - 8pm or 1 - 9pm with weekend work, not to exceed 40 hours per week. 
  • A willingness to meet with solar homeowners and community leaders and to do event work, including frequent nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • An existing network of contacts is beneficial to the position.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs, bend, twist, kneel, squat in the context of transporting, setting up and tearing down displays.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time at events. 
  • Ability to walk on variable surfaces for extended periods of time. 
  • Work outside in varying weather conditions. 
  • Flexibility to travel throughout our region, including long hours of driving.

  •    If this opportunity extends beyond the seasonal hire, SunCommon provides a strong package of benefits for full and part time team members, including:

$22-$24 per hour based on experience
