We are looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team dedicated to recovering rare earth elements in a rare earth metal refinery. You will leverage your extensive experience and contribute significantly to this cutting-edge process, ensuring efficient and responsible extraction of these critical resources for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, and advanced electronics.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Create custom control systems specifically designed for rare earth metal refining processes, covering material feeding, extraction, electrolysis, solvent extraction, and other critical processes.
    • Work closely with process engineering teams to design and implement control philosophies that optimize refining operations and ensure efficiency and reliability.
    • Utilize advanced analysis techniques to thoroughly assess refining systems, develop accurate models, and simulate processes to refine control algorithms and enhance process yield and purity.
    • Build and manage Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) interfaces, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems tailored to the specific needs of rare earth metal refining equipment.
    • Ensure seamless integration of hardware components such as pumps, valves, and sensors with control systems by configuring and commissioning them effectively.
    • Deploy SCADA systems for real-time monitoring, data acquisition, and remote operation, enabling efficient management and control of refining processes.
    • Conduct comprehensive testing and validation to ensure that control systems meet stringent quality and safety standards, guaranteeing optimal performance and reliability.
    • Offer technical assistance during system installation, startup, and ongoing operation, providing guidance and support to operations and maintenance teams to ensure smooth functioning.
    • Collaborate with IT professionals to establish secure communication protocols, implement encryption mechanisms, and adhere to industry best practices to safeguard refining processes against cyber threats and unauthorized access.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
    • 2+ years of experience in industrial control system design, specializing in chemical processing or metallurgy.
    • Proficiency in experience in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley) and SCADA (Ignition) systems.
    • Strong understanding of control theory principles, including adaptive and model predictive control strategies.
    • Familiarity with process instrumentation and industrial communication protocols relevant to metal manufacturing and production
    • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
    • Ability to thrive both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively conveying technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
