About This Role

This is a temporary position to support Climate Power’s work through the election cycle. It is expected that this role will end November 30, 2024.

Climate Power has an immediate opening for an Associate to help the States team implement the organization's work to drive a national narrative around the importance of climate and clean energy investments, sell the benefits of climate action in key communities and block efforts to dismantle climate progress in states across the country, with a focus on Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Program support: Support and monitor the State team’s  activities, in collaboration with other departments. Help track activities across states that are initiated by the CP team and/or in-state partners. 
    • Support team meetings & events: Work within States team to support substantive events, briefings, and meetings with progressive organizations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders in key states. 
    • Partner engagement support: Work with the States team to schedule State Advisory Board (SAB) calls and send regular emails to SABs with organization updates. Support writing team materials, including partner emails and internal reports. Work with communications consultants on translating national materials for state use.
    • Interdepartmental collaboration support: Help to coordinate information on the States program across other teams at Climate Power, including for funder reports. 
    • Administrative tasks: Support States team and Interim Managing Director with scheduling, note-taking, and other administrative duties.
    • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • 1 year of relevant prior work experience ideally in issue advocacy or political organizations/campaigns; interest in the intersection between national and state advocacy/campaign work. 
    • Excellent writing ability, communications, and presentation skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workplace. 

Location & Hours of Operations

    • Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in Washington, DC. This position can be located anywhere in the United States, but must be able to work Monday - Friday 9 am - 6 pm EST, plus weekends and evenings as the work dictates.
$26.92 - $32.07 an hour

Our Hiring Timeline and Process

We are accepting applications on a rolling basis and will continue to interview until the position is filled (posting will remain up until the position is filled).

An ideal start date would be on or before May 30, 2024. This is a temporary position and is expected to run through November 30, 2024.

Our interview process generally involves 3 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meets or Zoom. Successful candidates who move forward in the hiring process will be invited to complete a skills assessment activity (for which they will receive compensation) and undergo a vetting process, including reference and background checks, to ensure cultural and political alignment.
