Currently VARO Energy's main economic drivers are its main downstream activities in North West Europe. VARO refines, stores and distributes (bio)fuels for the European market. VARO has been a major player in the field of blending and trading sustainable biofuels for more than 10 years.

VARO Energy has a large and growing asset base. The group owns a refinery in Switzerland, a majority interest in a refinery in Germany, more than 50 storage facilities for (bio)fuels throughout Switzerland, Germany, France and the Benelux and has the logistical expertise and infrastructure to transport products from the refineries and the terminals to its customers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Business Controller Trading & Renewables as part of our Benelux Finance team, based in Rotterdam. 

CORE ACTIVITIES

We are looking for a Business Controller to support the Trading & Renewables business of VARO Energy based in Rotterdam. The business control department consists of an enthusiastic team of highly skilled employees. The team is working in close cooperation with the Accounting team, Risk department and Front and Back Office of our Trading & Renewables teams, all located in the Rotterdam office as well, so we have short communication lines. Depending on the background of the candidate a training period within our Risk department may be required.

In this role you will be:

• Providing management information to local stakeholders as well as to higher management, including analysis, to evaluate trading performance and explain the monthly movements on the trading P&L.

• Functioning as a sparring partner for all layers in the organization, with specialization in understanding our ETRM system and processes.

• Timely identification and escalation if necessary of controlling/business issues that affect the performance of operations..

• Pro-actively maintaining, supporting, advising and executing the annual and monthly Planning & Control cycle.

• Supporting and executing various ad-hoc activities where controlling expertise is required.

• Participating in management team meetings within your scope.

• Participating in projects and implementation processes.

THE SUCCESSFULL CANDIDATE HAS

• A Master’s degree or equivalent experience. 

• You are preferably educated in the area of business economics and have work experience in a commodity business in the field of controlling or deal accounting (2-4 years).

• The ideal candidate has proven track record on project activities in a complex organization. 

• Excellent command of MS Powerpoint and MS Excel, Power BI is preferred.

• Excellent command of Dutch and English language.

• Knowledge of and experience with ETRM systems and Mark to Market valuation is preferred.
