Job Description

 

  1. Background

SNV is implementing Increasing Climate Resilience in Energy and Agricultural Systems and Entrepreneurship (INCREASE), a project promoting climate resilience in agriculture and food systems. Under the INCREASE Project, SNV and key line ministries in collaboration with other private partners and SMEs is continuing promoting climate smart agricultural practices in crop and livestock production through good newly proven agronomic practices in project catchment areas.

  1. Objectives

The purpose of this procurement is to acquire essential items (installations, kits, materials, equipment etc.) necessary for the transformation of INCREASE demonstration sites into Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in Central and Northwestern Provinces. The procurement will focus on acquiring climate-smart and renewable energy technologies, including water reservoir/storage, irrigation drip tapes, pumps, fencing materials (wires), greenhouse, and solar drier. These inputs are vital for enhancing the viability of the demonstration sites and empowering farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices. By providing access to these technologies, the procurement initiative aims to improve farmers' capacity in climate-smart practices and ultimately enhance agricultural yield and income.

  1. Outcomes
  1. Improved Water Management:

The acquisition of water reservoir/storage and irrigation drip tapes to enable efficient water management, ensuring adequate irrigation for crops and reducing water wastage. Each host farmer with 20+ follow up farmers will be privileged to adopt and have the water technologies for both utilisation and learning purposes.

  1. Enhanced Productivity:

Deployment of pumps and greenhouse technology to create an optimized environment for crop cultivation, leading to increased productivity and year-round harvests. A target of 10 women and youth groups will utilise the facility to service the North-Western region with all the 2,000+ horticulture farmers accessing the quality seedlings.

  1. Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:

Integration of renewable energy technologies, such as solar driers, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and conventional drying methods, resulting in higher-quality products and reduced post-harvest losses. The solar drier will impact the 65 members of Nyaiseki Cooperative through quality solar drying and food preservation. The fencing materials, drip irrigation and solar kits, pumps will benefit the youth, women, men and differently abled people (2) who the project have worked with.

  1. Capacity Building in Climate-Smart Practices:

Providing farmers with access to modern technologies and training on their use to enhance their capacity in climate-smart agricultural practices, promoting soil conservation, crop diversification, and sustainable land management techniques.

  1. Time frame for this procurement

Timely procurement of the requested materials/resources will be of great importance. This activity is expected to be implemented expected to commence soon the equipment’s are procured.
