Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

As a Generation Technician you'll conduct and manage electrical maintenance throughout our geothermal Wairakei plant. Your main focus will be to support the reliable, safe and flexible operation of Contact’s essential assets.  Safety is paramount and you'll need to ensure we operate to the highest of standards.

Here's a snapshot of some of the work you will be responsible for;

  • Perform maintenance work and complex tasks such as time-based overhauls, replacements, technical repairs, calibrations, and inspections
  • Implement RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance) activities to improve Predictive and Preventive Maintenance practices
  •  Monitor plant condition, identify and report on defective plant and equipment, undertake preventive measures, and rectify problems where required
  • Ensure work and activities adhere to environmental consents and are within station and company environmental guidelines and procedures
  •  Maintain knowledge of and fully comply with all industry safety rules, codes of practice, regulations and environmental consents.

You will need to be open to on call work because a component of this role requires you to participate in a call-out roster to provide 24 hour coverage for operational and maintenance requirements.

 Here are some of the skills and experience we’d love to see; 

  • EWRB Electrical Registration, Relevant National Diploma/NZCE, Trade Certificate, or equivalent qualification in a specialist Electrical maintenance discipline, with sound experience in maintenance of power generation plant and auxiliary electrical equipment
  • Ability to apply analytical methods to understand and solve problems
  • Ability to clearly communicate information to colleagues and other teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Ability to apply basic cost benefit analysis principles
  • Exposure to systematic maintenance strategies and experience in condition monitoring
  • Experience with equipment/plant operation and/or maintenance in a power generation or heavy industrial process environment.
