EHS Specialist

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for collaborating with the EHS Director to create and implement the environmental health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The EHS Specialist is responsible for driving safety initiatives, protecting the well-being of employees, minimizing environmental impact, and driving our safety excellence culture.

What you'd do at Verde

  • Works closely with staff in operations, human resources, and other functions to provide technical environmental safety and health support and direction to production personnel. 
  • Develops and delivers curriculum for New Hire Orientation and other EHS training. 
  • Directs the development of written environmental, safety and health programs and policies (Safety Committee, Safety Assessment Audit Program, Work Conditioning Program, Wellness programs). 
  • Participates in job hazard analyses. 
  • Supports operations to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. 
  • Supports operations in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment. 
  • Promotes EHS awareness. 
  • Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for environmental safety and health considerations. 
  • Understands federal and state environmental safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur. 
  • Provides technical support to operations to ensure compliance with applicable environmental safety and health regulations. 
  • Audits practices and records to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state environmental safety and health regulations. 
  • Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims. 
  • Reviews safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary. 
  • Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary. 
  • Provide hands-on training 
  • Reports to the EHS Director

Qualifications

  • Must speak English and Spanish
  • Minimum 4 years of safety & experience in facilities, manufacturing, construction, or equivalent
  • Proficiency or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in any of the following would be a plus: facilities, green cleaning / custodial, critical space / cleanroom, and / or LEED

Location

 This role will require a combination of office work and on-site presence to assess safety protocols, conduct inspections, and interact with employees.
