The Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team at Amazon works with business partners across Amazon’s Operations teams to identify, fund, design, develop, and deploy innovative robotics and automation systems that are the backbone of Amazon’s Fulfillment and Transportation facilities.
We are seeking a Principal, Technical Product Manager to join our team. This individual will be a pragmatic visionary that can translate business needs into technology solutions that scale both technically and operationally. This individual will handle evolving / complex demands with dependencies on other internal organizations, and will draw on stakeholder feedback, operational data, and past experience leading technology initiatives to set and deliver on goals for adoption, performance, and revenue. We are looking for individuals who embrace ambiguity, and are excited about solving hard, large scale problems in a dynamic environment.


Key job responsibilities
You broadly influence across a large organization or with a charter to innovate/disrupt a strategically important domain.

You will own a strategically important technology product, and/or suite of products with significant business impact.

You have a strategic focus, yet retain an appropriate level of hands-on management. You partner with business leaders, technical managers, and Senior/Principal Engineers to determine the long-term viability of systems/products, from business and technology standpoints.

You communicate ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences including Directors and VPs. You foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus). You partner successfully with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams.

You are able to decompose significantly complex problems into straight-forward solutions. You consistently bring strong, data-driven business, and technical judgment to decisions. Positive or negative, you own the results. You visibly recognize success by giving credit to engineers, managers, and any others who contributed.

You proactively identify gaps and opportunities (e.g., services, workflows, tooling) within or between regions, architectures, and organizations. You make sure risks are mitigated.

You take the time to mentor senior technical product managers through collaborative development planning, coaching, and strategic project assignment.

About the team
The World Wide Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging team communicates, and executes engineering designs, processes, and innovations linked to Amazon’s business goals as defined by the operations leadership team. Our road map focuses on systematically improving every aspect of the Amazon Fulfillment operations supply chain from: associate experience, safety, cost, storage, throughput capacity, speed, flexibility, scalability, sustainability, operational performance and reliability. We own a number of key engineering/automation programs/products including: Sortation, Packaging, Manipulation, Transport, and Next Generation FC technologies. Our team members possess deep design experience and innovation skill-sets in these technical areas. We work closely with internal partner teams in all geographies to align priorities, eliminate duplication or waste. Our solutions are extremely cost effective, driving Customer value and experience. The team provides oversight and approvals for project technical feasibility, design and realization.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
- Experience in technical product management, program management or engineering
- Experience leading engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement
- 7+ years of technical product or program management experience
- Experience in using analytical tools, such as Tableau, Qlikview, QuickSight

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $144,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
