Description

DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Chief Naturalist, the Environmental and Interpretive Programmer is responsible for:

  • Design and deliver environmental education, historical interpretation, and team building programs for participants of all ages.
  • Implement nature-based activities for the afterschool program.
  • Assist with facility coverage during public hours, special events, and rentals.
  • Work with livestock and education animals during programming and provide them with daily care.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Take bookings for programs, field trips, and rentals. Take registrations for classes and camp.
  • Handle cash in a retail setting.
  • Assist with Ancient Oaks Day Camp as needed.
  • Assist with routine facility maintenance.
  • Prepare museum displays and assist with publications.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, education, history, biology, or related field is preferred. Experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

Experience: Experience in working with animals.Experience working harmoniously with people of all ages and backgrounds. 

Knowledge and Ability:

  • Cash handling/customer service experience.
  • A strong interest in, and willingness to learn about, local natural history and human history, as well as informal interpretation/teaching methods.
  • Ability to use common computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, the ability to learn RecTrac system.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
