Intern - Advocacy, Sustainability & Safety
Description

The Intern will shadow the members of the Advocacy, Sustainability and Safety staff to learn about ISRI and its operations. The Intern will be responsible for general research, administrative and operational tasks for the department. 


Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

This position will be responsible for many of the following activities depending on the needs of the department, the legislative calendar, and other ISRI events and functions. This is not a complete list and other duties should be expected. 

  • Assists lead staff in preparing testimony, briefing papers, and talking points. 
  • Researches and tracks federal and state legislation at the direction of ISRI staff. 
  • Assists in scheduling and may attend Congressional staff meetings, hearings, and other briefings as needed and at the direction of ISRI staff. 
  • Accompanies ISRI staff and attends meetings as needed with advocacy groups, law firms, associations, and political organizations.
  • Attends Division (Ferrous, Plastics, Paper, and Electronics) and committee (GR) meetings and prepares formal minutes for review by lead – ISRI staff. 
  • Researches emerging issues including material substitutions, environmental regulations, and their impacts, and more at the direction of ISRI staff. 
  • Assists with preparations for ISRI-led conferences and other conferences such as NCSL, ITAD Summit, and E-Scrap. 
Requirements
  • Candidates will have completed at least two years of undergraduate university coursework in political science, business, or other liberal arts programs.
  • Candidates must have an interest in the sustainability industry and be able to perform online research.
  • Candidates must have a working knowledge of MS Office products and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working Conditions

This is a remote position. Interns located in the DC area will have the option to work in the office. Interns outside the DC area must be able to work on an Eastern time zone schedule and have access to a quiet location with good internet connectivity from which to work.

Some local travel may be included if mutually agreed upon by the intern and ISRI.

This position is intended to work approximately 20 hours per week from Monday to Thursday within business hours of 9 AM-5 PM ET.  Intern will have all every Friday off unless otherwise indicated. 

Prolonged periods of working at a computer.

Salary Description
$20.00 per hour
