Organization Summary
The LA Conservation Corps (the Corps) is a private, non-profit organization that has been helping at-risk young people develop themselves since 1986.  To date, more than 20,000 young people have participated in Corps classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for all of us in the greater Los Angeles area.

 

Mission
The primary mission of the LA Conservation Corps is to provide at-risk young adults and school-aged youth with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.

 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and physical upkeep of all areas inside and outside assigned work area.

 

Essential Functions

  • Completes daily maintenance tasks including collection of debris from trash receptacles, bulky item pick-up, and proper material disposal.
  • Works independently and takes lead in completing daily tasks in multiple work zones.
  • Motivates young people to fulfill their education, development and work plans and goals.
  • Provides corpsmembers the skills necessary to improve their employability.
  • Ensures safe work practices, a safe work environment and the proper maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools. 
  • Ensures a consistently high quality of work is performed on the various work projects.
  • At project worksites, serves as liaison between project sponsoring agency staff and your supervisor.
  • Trains and guides the team in project development tasks.
  • Implements work projects in a manner that is timely, efficient and effective from start to finish.
  • Ensures that the appropriate equipment is available for the work crews to perform the work projects.
  • Maintains appropriate professional close ties with community-based organizations.
  • Provides team support for community events and promote community involvement in team projects. 
  • Plans and carries out assigned crew scheduling.
  • Prepares daily and monthly reports of project work assignments.
  • Punctuality and satisfactory attendance are essential functions of the job.
  • Working from home is not an option.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education And Experience

High School Diploma or equivalency (from an accredited institution).

A minimum of six (6) months relevant experience.

 

 

Preferred Education And Experience

Previous experience working in the non-profit or public sector.

 

Other Requirements

Must be COVID-19 vaccinated and be able to provide supporting documentation. 

Must be able to work Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday.

Pass a post-offer drug/alcohol screen test before commencing employment (required to submit for the drug/alcohol screening at a company designated facility).

Pass a post-offer Live Scan (fingerprint/background clearance-Department of Justice) before commencing employment. 

California Class C Driver’s License, validation of driving record for commercial policy insurability per the requirements of the state of California. 

Standard multi-media first aid certification.  If you do not currently possess a standard multi-media first aid certification, you will have 90 days from the effective date of acquiring this position to secure a multi-media certification.

Reference checks will be conducted.  Employment is also contingent upon receipt of acceptable references.

 

salary and benefits

Hourly rate: $19.83 -$24.18 (reflects the entire hourly rate range). A starting hourly rate higher than $19.83 per hour is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (hourly rate range).
