Department Description:
 
The Finance & Accounting Department is the team responsible for preparing the financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, paying bills, billing customers, cost accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, contracts, insurance, and more.
 
Position Overview:
 
The Staff Accountant assists in the day-to-day functions of the Finance Department’s accounting function and is expected to be familiar with a variety of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures. The position will be posting journal entries, performing reconciliations, and help drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close. There will also be opportunities to optimize the use of software and other tools employed by the Conservancy in carrying out key duties and responsibilities. This position may also work on a variety of special projects.
 
This position is located at the Parks Conservancy’s headquarters at Fort Mason in San Francisco.  Work is performed in an office setting, including a mix of telework and on-site.  The Conservancy currently requires a minimum of 4 full days per month onsite; however, in many instances it would require more onsite days either in the office or visiting park sites in order to meet the essential requirements of the position.
 
Reports To:  Director of Accounting
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Performs month-end closing activities, such as journal entries, accruals, general ledger account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and analyses.
  • Assists in driving the monthly financial closing process to ensure its integrity and timeliness.
  • Efficiently and accurately code and enter retail invoices, donations, credit card expenses, and other similar items into the financial system.
  • Prepares for and supports annual financial audits and the 990 audit by preparing schedules and PBC requests.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies and recommend changes and improvements to our systems to ensure scalability.
  • Provides back-up for accounts payable function during periods of high volume.
  • Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis.
  • Miscellaneous tasks and duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years previous experience in accounting
  • Experience working in a high volume organization and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct and Raiser’s Edge desired
  • Experience working with or implementing AP automation software (e.g. Bill.com) highly desired.

 Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting
  • Regularly sits and/or stands at a desk for 6-8 hours per day
  • Occasionally lifts and carries objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally visits retail, warehouse, and park sites
  • Primary office is in Fort Mason, San Francisco 
Salary/Benefits: The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $88,000 per year (Grade 17).  The Parks Conservancy will hire within the salary range posted for the position and will not make an offer above this level.  Benefits include a competitive suite of medical, dental, and vision plans, up to 3 weeks of paid vacation; paid holiday, personal, and sick days; a 403(b) retirement plan, Employee Assistance Program, Commuter Program, employee discounts, and more.
