We are currently seeking a Renewable Energy Performance Engineer to join our dedicated Energy team who are passionate about driving South West Water's renewable energy strategy and development of new renewable energy opportunities. Joining us on a full-time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £32,000 - £37,000 per annum plus excellent benefits.

The team are based in Exeter but we are open to applications from Bristol with occasional travel to head office.

About the role:

As our Renewable Energy Performance Engineer you will be focussed on ensuring we are maximising our renewable energy generation potential and helping to identify new opportunities for projects. You will be responsible for the monitoring and optimisation of our portfolio of diverse assets including 90-year old hydro power turbines to recently installed Solar Photovoltaic arrays. You will also support the team with the development of new projects from technical feasibility through to business case development and procurement.

What we are looking for:

    • To optimise renewable energy generation against on-site energy usage
    • To work with Operations and Finance departments to set challenging yet achievable generation targets and budgets
    • To maximise the benefits from energy to the business from energy, carbon, maintenance and financial savings
    • Liaise with operations teams to improve the performance, reliability and output of the existing generation equipment (hydro, CHP, solar and wind)
    • To support the identification, feasibility and delivery of new opportunities for alternative energy sources from an engineering, technical and commercial perspective
    • To coordinate the installation and ongoing management of necessary metering equipment for compliance and performance assessment
    • To undertake and maintain Ofgem registrations ROCs and FITs for renewable energy generating installations
    • To manage the transfer of ROCs, LECs, FITS and REGOs to the specified procedures and timetables to ensure compliance and income 
    • To work with local agencies, authorities and communities to promote the energy activities of the company and to organise and support planning proposals as required.
    • To attend and represent SWW’s generation activities at external and internal conferences and meetings

What's in it for you:

    • Relevant degree or HND/HNC with experience
    • 2-3 years experience in a technical role, ideally withing a utility or energy related industry.
    • Experience and knowledge of renewable energy generation technologies,
    • Knowledge of the GB electricity industry
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Logical and analytical approach to problem solving
    • Understands the relationship between energy, carbon emissions and climate change
    • Well organised and effective time keeper – able to prioritise work to meet deadlines
    • Adept with Microsoft Office applications (MS Excel in particular)
    • Competent with databases, and non standard information systems
£32,000 - £37,000 a year
