Job Description

Salterbaxter is currently seeking a Director of Sustainability Strategy and Communications for North America.  This person will lead the sustainability advisory work including strategy and reporting in the NA region, overseeing and driving our core sustainability consultancy work and NA team, partnering closely with our UK consulting team, client service functions, as well as design, production and new business.

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Sustainability Consulting Leader who offers advice and counsel across a range of complex challenges our NA clients face and oversees the delivery of high quality work and deliverables. This person will sit on the company management team and play a central role in driving new business and marketing in North America as well as managing the NA team alongside the Group Client Director (North America).

Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Able to bring extensive and expert knowledge across a range of different corporate sustainability challenges, issues, trends and practices – and across a range of sectors
  • Able to apply knowledge, insight, and critical thinking to solve complex and high-profile client challenges across own portfolio of work
  • Build strong and profitable client relationships at a senior-level as a trusted advisor
  • Able to understand the client mind-set and wider organizational priorities, culture and context and to use this to spot ways in which Salterbaxter can enhance and expand its support
  • Facilitate workshops, leading meetings and engaging with senior client representatives
  • Be an expert in identifying, synthesizing and communicating client challenges and solutions (written and verbal)
  • Oversee and work within project teams, consistently finding ways to get the best from others
  • Enhance the quality of draft and final deliverables
  • Play an active role in client development, partnering closely with the client partnership function (led in NA by the Group Client Director)
  • Lead, contribute and oversee new business development for North America
  • Develop and lead pitch responses, collaborating with colleagues to understand what the client will buy and delivering pitch outputs to a consistently high quality
  • Play a key role in opening up opportunities through profile building, networking, thought leadership and marketing
  • Oversee weekly resourcing needs and long-term planning across the team – implement and oversee success of relevant processes and monitoring tools
  • Responsible for overall team leadership and development as well as line management of NA consultants – developing annual objectives, identifying training needs, providing ad-hoc support, and conducting and overseeing appraisals
  • As part of the management team, you will be responsible for agreeing wider cross-agency priorities across our offer, business development, revenue targets, people, client development and knowledge and skills building
  • Contribute to all other agency management needs and demonstrate leadership at all levels

Previous experience:

  • 8+ years of industry experience
  • Strong experience in sustainability leadership, with demonstrable exposure to large and complex consultancy projects – strategy, communications, or reporting
  • Experience in the delivery of sustainability strategies and reporting projects is particularly important
  • Demonstrate experience across a range of different sectors and practices
  • A formal qualification in a related sustainability field alongside agency/consultancy experience
  • Must have experience in meeting stretching financial targets across revenue, business development and profit margin
  • Demonstrable track record of pitch success and leadership
  • Team and commercial management, capacity planning, financial reporting
  • Self-starter that is proactive, organiszed and meticulous – passionate about meeting deadlines and solving problems
  • Able to think outside of the box and uncover creative and credible solutions
  • Ability to work in an agile manner and adapt to fast changing requests – internally and externally
  • Comfortable working in a small and ambitious team within a larger agency structure
  • Engaged and outspoken on the need and opportunity for business to drive the necessary progress towards a sustainable future

Compensation Range: $140,000.00 - $165,000.00 annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
