Job Description

Primary Purpose: Under direct supervision of the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for reviewing, authorizing, and creating environmental reports for the Inorganic, Organic and Micro departments. Additional Lab work will be necessary to help improve workflow, testing, processes, and equipment.

Eurofins is looking for a dedicated environmental Chemist to be responsible for studying; the relationship between the chemistry of methodology, approving analyzes, and creating reports based on the correct review and authorization of data.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The principal duties will be to perform data authorization and approval for all testing carried out at the Ottawa facility.
  • Create Environmental reports for the Inorganic/Organic and Micro labs based on current guideline adherence
  • Develop, improve, and optimize instrumentation, methodology and workflow
  • Carry out scheduled audits of staff, processes and testing to ensure adherence to quality system
  • When needed perform sample extractions according to applicable SOPs and test methods
  • When needed perform sample analysis, integration, and data entry into the LIMS system
  • When needed perform method validation procedures for applicable test methods
  • Maintain good laboratory housekeeping at all times
  • When needed perform regular instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration
  • Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Assurance Manual
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Job Specifications:

  • To be successful in this role, you must be analytical, detail orientated, and logical. You should be dedicated to furthering the services Eurofins offers and improving the processes and testing undertaken within the laboratory
  • Use and experience of chromatography, spectroscopy and spectrophotometry an asset
  • Office experience – mod to high
  • Proficient with testing equipment associated with environmental monitoring an asset
  • Laboratory safety and WHMIS training
  • Troubleshooting skills required for instrument maintenance
  • Technical knowledge of applicable test methods
  •  A bachelors Degree in Chemistry or a related field with further education being an advantage
  • Good presentation, documentation, and reporting skills
  • Good verbal and written communicator
  • Strong technical skills

Additional Information

Shift: Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours per week

Temporary position / maternity leave cover -  12 months.
