Position Overview: Weitsman Recycling is seeking a skilled Material Handler Crane Operator to join our team at our recycling facility. The Material Handler Crane Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining overhead cranes and other material handling equipment to efficiently move, sort, and process recyclable materials. The ideal candidate will have experience operating cranes in a recycling or industrial setting, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operate Overhead Crane: Safely operate overhead cranes and other material handling equipment to move, load, and unload recyclable materials such as metals, plastics, and paper.
  2. Material Sorting: Use the crane to accurately sort and separate different types of recyclable materials according to established guidelines and procedures.
  3. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections on cranes and material handling equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are met.
  4. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), conducting pre-operational checks, and following safe operating procedures at all times.
  5. Quality Control: Monitor the quality of materials being processed and identify any contaminants or non-conforming items, taking appropriate action as needed.
  6. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members, including sorters, equipment operators, and supervisors, to achieve daily production goals and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  7. Reporting and Documentation: Keep accurate records of materials handled, equipment usage, maintenance activities, and any incidents or near misses, reporting information to supervisors as required.
  8. Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, suggesting ways to optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety in the workplace.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be availiable to work weekends as needed.
  • Previous experience operating overhead cranes or similar material handling equipment in a recycling, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Valid crane operator certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in the recycling or waste management industry.
  • Familiarity with basic mechanical repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Experience operating other types of material handling equipment, such as forklifts or loaders.

Work Environment: The Material Handler Crane Operator will primarily work in a recycling facility, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, and varying temperatures. The position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
