Transport Operations Manager - West Midlands & Wales

Keenan Recycling is the UK’s largest food waste collection company. Due to continued expansion of the Company, we are looking to recruit a Transport Operations Manager to oversee the collections operation across depots in the West Midlands & Wales.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and be a strong and supportive manager of people. They will have knowledge of EU Drivers’ hours, the Working Time Directive, and be used to working under pressure whilst delivering a first-class service.

As Transport Operations Manager you will oversee all depots throughout West Midlands and Wales. You will support the Drivers, Lead Drivers and Depot Supervisors providing ongoing training and support and assist them in making their appointed depots safe, compliant and successful.  You will work closely with the Transport Director and other Transport Operations Managers to effectively manage the collections operation, fleet and drivers to ensure compliance in line with our O Licence undertakings.

Duties:

  • Ensure the compliance of Driver Hours and Working Time directives.
  • Recruit, train and retain drivers.
  • Ensure compliance of vehicle maintenance schedules, repairs, MOT and road tax payments.
  • Assist the Collections Team, planning routes and scheduling collection/delivery times.
  • Assist Depot Supervisors to achieve given KPI’s (service levels, fuel efficiency, operational efficiency, etc.).
  • Actively manage cost savings and efficiency initiatives.
  • Responsible for monthly depot checks with paperwork completed.
  • Motivate and effectively performance manage direct reports.
  • Participate in driver interviews and hiring.
  • Assist with coordination and delivery of staff training.
  • Check and approve POs and work carried out.
  • Ensure driver timesheets are submitted on a timely basis, working with finance to ensure they accurately reflect hours worked.
  • Liaise with senior management to develop and improve systems.
  • Achieve transport service levels and operational KPIs whilst maintaining a compliant fleet and workforce, maximising return for the company.
  • Ensuring all ‘O licence’ General Undertakings are achieved.
  • Conduct the Monthly Supervisor Meetings.
  • Attend and participate in the Monthly Management Meetings.

Key skills & experience:

  • National Transport Manager CPC
  • Class C Driving Qualification
  • Driver CPC Card
  • Proven record of managing staff.
  • Competent in Microsoft packages
  • Understanding of H&S responsibilities.
  • Understanding of HR processes and procedures including appraisal, disciplinary and grievance.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills with customers and colleagues.
  • Understanding of logistics and route planning.
  • Understanding of driver hours and tachograph rules.
  • Understanding of O Licence undertakings.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
