Summary of Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Deputy Chief- Reservoir Maintenance/Infrastructure, the Engineering Intern shall assist in the design and preparation of construction documents, as well as updating Computer Aided Design (CAD) files to reflect new construction projects, modifications to existing facilities, and updates to utility infrastructure mapping.  Duties include reading and interpreting source documents, such as civil engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications.  Assists with collection of field data and inspection of construction projects and/or facilities as needed.  Assists with field survey crew as needed.  Assists with general office duties such as scanning, copying, filing and organizing. 

Practices standard MWCD safety procedures in performing job duties and assists other MWCD personnel as required.

When appropriate, attends department and other organizational outreach events and meetings.

Essential Functions include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Assists Engineering and other MWCD staff with preparation of drawings and specifications.  Operates CAD system to update drawings as new data is received relative to design work, utility locations, capital improvement projects, zoning requirements, and other projects on district property.  Performs inspections of previous construction projects and/or existing facilities, collects field data, and documents findings.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

Education:

 

Currently enrolled in one of the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology, Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technology, or similar discipline is required. 

 

Experience:

 

 

Working knowledge and experience in converting construction drawings/updates from physical maps to the CAD system.  Working knowledge of symbols and terminology used in civil engineering drawings required.  Knowledge of basic geography and standards of mapping required.

 

Computer Skills:

 

Experience with AutoCAD preferred. Experience with Word and Excel are required.

 

Certifications & Licenses:

 

 

Driver’s license valid in the State of Ohio.

 

Abilities:

 

Ability to keep accurate records and good organizational skills

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

It is anticipated that office work will dominate this position. Must be insurable by the employer’s fleet insurance company. Good public communication skills are required.
