Data Scientist - Battery Modelling

  • Full-time

Company Description

We are an ally for the grid, the people and the planet. Our battery energy storage makes energy more affordable, cleaner and accessible for everyone so that every factory, business and home to reduce their energy bills by up to 50% while providing flexibility to the grid to lower costs and accelerate decarbonisation.

Our first system, the Allye Max, is an innovative 320kWh mobile energy storage system using repurposed electric vehicle batteries. It is two-times cheaper and has 60% lower embedded CO2 than other similar systems. Our teams are developing the hardware and software solutions to transform our energy is managed at the grid-edge.

Following successful testing, pilots with major companies and further engineering development, the Max is now ready for series production. Due to our rapid growth, the team at Allye is expanding in multiple areas, increasing the depth and strength of our team of energy hustlers.

We are united by the shared values of freedom, autonomy and purpose. Allye is a company where you are empowered and respected as part of an inclusive and transparent culture that values all contributions as we collectively generate a positive impact for society and our planet.

Job Description

We are seeking a passionate Battery Modelling Engineer or Data Scientist with a background in lithium-ion battery modelling for electric vehicles or energy storage.

This role represents a unique opportunity to work within a rapidly growing and dynamic company. You will be responsible for developing our digital twin of our battery energy storage system. You will design and maintain digital twins of our battery systems to maximise both revenue and lifetime of our batteries.

This is an exciting role that offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of an emerging industry and make a lasting impact on the future of energy storage.

The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering or computer science either in energy storage or electric vehicles and a strong understanding of the energy transition.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain digital twins for our battery systems, using advanced data modelling techniques.
  • Implement both physics-based and data driven approaches to predict battery performance and degradation.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate real-time data from IoT devices into the digital twin platform.
  • Support the development of new algorithms for energy management and battery state-of-X estimation.
  • Optimize the digital twin model for maximum performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Design and develop data-driven insights to improve battery system design and operation.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the digital twin accurately reflects the physical battery systems.

Qualifications

Must-haves

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in battery modelling, digital twin development.
  • Direct experience working on batteries, battery management systems, and energy management systems
  • Strong proficiency in Python, and experience with simulation.
  • Deep understanding working scaling electrical and thermal battery models from cell to pack level.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and their application to performance optimization.
  • Deep understanding of lithium-ion battery system behaviour from first principles.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Experience with unit testing and other software testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of IoT device integration and data acquisition.
  • Must be self-motivated and an effective team player.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Nice-to-haves

  • An interest in the energy sector and IoT devices.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or GCP.
  • Familiarity with real-time control systems.
