Description

The Origination Associate will support the Senior Originator and Development department in initiating and structuring energy transactions, such as power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other contracts. Additionally, they may undertake general development tasks. Responsibilities include identifying opportunities, negotiating terms, and facilitating deals to develop and expand Fervo's geothermal projects in the Western U.S. This position will report to the Senior Originator or Vice President of Development & Commercial Markets .

Responsibilities

  • Utilize available customer data and decarbonization metrics to assess commercial potential of business targets; Identify key contacts within potential business targets
  • Identify and develop high-potential opportunities, overseeing the entire sales process and supporting relationship-building efforts
  • Conduct comprehensive discussions with contacts to grasp customer needs and align them with Fervo’s solutions; Gain insight into customer decision-making processes regarding energy needs, including sustainability and resiliency objectives
  • Acquire a deep understanding of all Fervo solutions, including benefits, challenges, and relevant policies/incentives
  • Navigate Fervo’s internal structure, fostering relationships with subject matter experts and product owners to facilitate cross-functional solutions; Collaborate with technical team to devise optimal project pricing and contract provisions, considering, timing, pricing, and risk
  • Lead special projects across internal functional groups to enhance value creation throughout development, procurement, construction, and financing processes

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience related to origination, generation, transmission, or marketing of electricity
  • Bachelors’ Degree in economics, law, sustainability, engineering, or related preferred 
  • Experience related to negotiating, implementing, or administering electric power grid industry contracts, including engineering, legal, and/or business experience
  • Understanding of technical electric industry concepts and an ability to express such concepts in a non-technical manner is preferred
  • Must be self-starting and willing and able to work independently in a dynamic corporate organization under pressure of tight deadlines and high expectations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ISO markets, scheduling, operations, contracts or ISO Tariff provisions, pro forma and non pro forma contracts
  • Experience or knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to the electric power grid industry
  • Hands-on-experience or solid understanding of transmission topology
  • Thorough understanding of Western energy markets, including, but not limited to: supply and demand, logistics, regulations and operations
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced dynamic commodity market environment 

Location

  

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Golden, Oakland, Reno, and Salt Lake City. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Oakland office location will be required. Travel will be required for this position.

Fervo Energy is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. Expected Salary: $125,000 - $165,000 based on California locality, pay in other locations may vary.


Fervo Energy reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
