Senior Application Engineer

Schneider Electric USA, Inc. seeks a Senior Application Engineer in Overland Park, KS.

Job Description: Read and understand the customer’s requirements and specification pertaining to the Electrical distribution system’s control. Prepare design submittal document of the sequence of operation from the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), including the Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens. Collaborate with plant and hardware engineers on Switchgear and control enclosure design to ensure that electrical signals and wiring for the control portion is properly incorporated. Once the design submittal is approved, configure the PLC and HMI to achieve the agreed-upon functionalities. Validate and test the control sequence of the PLC and HMI on the Switchgear with plant. Support customer witness test and start the system at the plant. Work with contractor and field Services team to ensure that the installation of the control portion (including hardware) is properly done. Test the sequence of operation of the PLC on live conditions, which includes coordination with utility companies. Sign off test reports with customers. Position eligible for 100% remote work, reporting to manager in Overland Park, Kansas. 35% domestic travel required to employer plants and a variety of customer sites for solution validation and startup.

Requirements: Position requires Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field and 3 years of progressive, post-bachelor’s experience in electrical, instrumentation, automation, or software engineering, or related occupation, which must include at least some experience in the following skills: Designing Electrical Distribution systems, including reading single line diagrams and electrical control drawings; Designing applications using understanding of power systems; Programming diverse brand of PLC (Schneider Electric, Allen Bradley); Programming diverse brand of HMI (Schneider Electric, Allen Bradley); Modbus RTU & Modbus TCP/IP; Developing PLC and HMI software using AB PLC; Designing network architecture for communication of various field instruments and PLC; and Preparing technical documentation to ensure efficient training for operators and technicians
