Job Description

Schneider Electric is looking for a Chief Engineer for Battery Management Systems (BMS) & Battery Packs for its Energy Storage Center of Excellence (CoE). SE’s Energy Storage CoE enables company’s growth through the development of innovative energy storage products that are battery technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.

 

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the successful launch of BMS and Battery Packs into mass production for UPS and Storage applications by ensuring the designs meet stringent quality, reliability, performance, and safety requirements.  The chief engineer will also be responsible for providing technical support for Battery related topics to both internal and external customers.

 

What will you do?

 

  • Translate application requirements into battery BMS and pack/rack/system requirements, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, environmental, reliability, and compliance
  • Review and assess battery supplier specifications (e.g., battery cells and modules) 
  • Conduct technical design reviews for BMS and Battery Packs  
  • Lead battery platform FMEA, DFM, DFA reviews
  • Support global R&D teams in issue resolution, root cause analysis etc
  • Review and develop test plans and procedures, as needed, for BMS and Battery Pack testing
  • Support Lines of Business in System Level testing (UPS, Storage) of Battery Packs.
  • Support Lines of business in successful adoption of battery platforms for the end products
  • Support global supply chain in supplier development and management
  • Support quality in root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Support manufacturing in alternate component qualification

What qualifications will make you successful? 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in engineering or science.
  • 15 years of experience with batteries
  • 5+ years of experience with Lithium batteries (e.g., Lithium-Ion – NMC, LFP…).
  • Deep Understanding of battery management system (BMS) and Battery Pack design
  • Experience with safety, compliance, and regulatory standards (UL1642, UL1973, UL9540, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in engineering or science.
  • Understanding of different types of battery technologies, their performance, and characteristics
  • Experience in developing specifications and requirements for battery modules and packs/racks
  • Experience in developing battery modules and packs/racks by working with mechanical, thermal, electrical, FW/SW, and testing engineers.
  • Direct experience testing lithium battery cells, modules, and packs/racks.
  • Battery product development experience, including cell qualification and UL certification.
  • Experience in project planning and tracking.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members.
  • Design for Six Sigma certification.
  • Bilingual in English/Chinese. 
  • Ability to travel 15-25% domestic and International. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication
