Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal or Senior Principal level Environmental Consultant (Manufacturing & Automotive) to join our growing UK business. The successful candidate will ideally be based near our Manchester or Bristol offices, but for the right candidate we will also consider fully remote working. The position will help us grow our practice, and manage client development, construction management, and environmental regulatory compliance for clients across several industries, with the Automotive sector as a key area of focus. You must have an entrepreneurial attitude, and enthusiasm for leading and supporting business development and technical efforts to expand Geosyntec’s market share (i.e., by winning and delivering client projects).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec’s culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Directing or Programme Managing, siting, permitting, planning, licensing, compliance and environmental oversight of automotive and wider manufacturing sector projects;
  • Directing and/or Programme Managing multiple projects within the scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables;
  • Leading the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management;
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business;
  • Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated winning proposals.

Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Chartered Engineer or Scientist (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of experience consulting and working for the manufacturing sector, related to the siting, planning application, permitting, and licensing field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrable track record in developing automotive and broader manufacturing sector clients and winning a range of projects and assignments (required)
  • Experience in directing and managing permitting, planning, compliance and environmental oversight of automotive manufacturing projects. (required) 
  • Experience of directing and managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management. (required) 
  • Experience in conducting environmental site assessments (ESAs) for due diligence and compliance purposes for the automotive and manufacturing sectors. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid UK driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
