Leads and directs the development and implementation of comprehensive environmental, health and health programs including policies and procedures that are compliant, promoting continuous improvement and ensuring a safe, clean, accident-free environment. Leads and directs implementation of best practices to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations (DOT, OSHA, NFPA, EPA). Requires the ability to develop and maintain relationships with all levels within and outside the organization.
 
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Leads Novagard safety committees; review and discus safety needs, provide updates, training, DOT, Hazmat, OSHA and related safety and compliance information.
  • Leads ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 registration efforts.
  • Develop Job Safety Analysis (JSA), standard work procedures (SWP), facilitation and/or review of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and work safety permits.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reduce and eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and lead implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Conduct surveys to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety, and environmental conditions. Prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.
  • Coordinate and lead on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.
  • Provide advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations.
  • Direct the development of safety, environmental and hazard control training programs.
  • Conduct new employee occupational health, safety, and environmental orientation.
  • Develop and implement a site specific 5 S program
  • Lead the development and implementation the EHS Audit process.
  • Lead the development and execution of Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning.

Skills, Experience, Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree – technical field appropriate to chemical plant operations.  An EHS degree or graduate degree is a plus.
  • 6+ years’ experience in the Environmental, Health, and Safety profession in the chemical manufacturing or related industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, EPA, other governmental regulations and laws including OSHA 300 logs and requirements by our insurance providers.
  • Proven track record of successful implementation of industrial safety and other EHS programs.
  • Must have skills and experience conducting training for employees at all levels of the organization. 
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulatory requirements including experience with Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Flammable and Combustible liquids operations, and Process Safety Management including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) facilitation.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Project Management experience required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with State and Federal environmental regulatory requirements. Knowledge of RCRA waste management, Title 5, groundwater and soil contamination, and remediation is a plus.
  • CSP and/or CHMM a plus.
