Environmental Organizer - Climate

  • Full-time

Company Description

Clean Water Action is a non-profit focusing on campaigns related to water access, water quality, and environmental justice. With over half a million members nationwide and 160,000 members in Michigan, Clean Water Action's impact is far-reaching. We work to empower people to take action to protect America's waters, build healthy communities and to make democracy work for all of us. Our recent victories include passing a drinking water standard for PFAs in Michigan and funding lead pipe replacement across the state. By joining our team, you will be at the forefront of creating a cleaner, healthier future for all.

Job Description

We're currently fighting for affordable drinking water in the state. Over the last 40 years, water rates in Michigan have nearly doubled when adjusted for inflation. According to current estimates, one in ten Michigan families struggle with unaffordable water bills. Michigan is surrounded by 20% of the world’s fresh surface water, so it is unacceptable that families here can’t afford the water coming from their taps. At Clean Water Action, we believe water is a human right, not a commodity to be bought and sold and not a luxury for those fortunate enough to be able to afford it. So we're working to pass a law that would limit what can be charged for water, ensuring that all families have access to clean water in their homes.

For 51 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation's most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing, expert policy research and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public. As part of our staff, you would organize communities around these vital issues. Responsibilities include one-on-one communication, fundraising, dispersing information, volunteer recruitment, generation of letters to lawmakers, and good record keeping.

The hours for the work are from 2pm to 10:30pm, Monday through Friday. Pay for full time is $640-740/week including bonuses. We are currently interviewing for full time positions starting immediately. We provide a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, and 401k; opportunities for travel within Michigan and throughout the US; and the potential for long term growth within the organization.

These are in person positions. Proof of vaccination will be required for applicants for this position. All staff utilizing office are required to wear masks while together in indoor spaces. N95 or KN95 masks and sanitizer are provided.
