Job Summary
The Department of Health Sciences invites applications for the position of a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability beginning August 16, 2024.
Candidates with expertise and work experience in industrial hygiene as well as other occupational health and safety areas are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities will include:
1) TEACHING: Provide quality instruction in a variety of undergraduate environmental health, safety, and sustainability courses. For a complete list of course offerings, see Occupational Safety & Health and Environmental Health & Sustainability.
2) SCHOLARSHIP: Develop a focused area of scholarship that culminates in nationally refereed publications and presentations, prepare grant applications, and be involved in scholarly projects with faculty and students.
3) SERVICE: Participate in College, School, and Program faculty meetings and activities. Serve on Program, School, College, and/or University Committees and contribute to State and/or National/International professional organizations. Advise majors regarding general career options and professional matters.
The position is a nine-month probationary tenure-track position, with the possibility of summer teaching. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. For consideration at the rank of Associate Professor, applicants must have an appropriate record of teaching excellence, scholarly productivity, and pertinent work experience relevant to environmental health, safety, and sustainability.

The Department of Health Sciences: The Department of Health Sciences (HSC), in the College of Applied Science and Technology, has 16 tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty members, a full-time academic advisor, and two civil service support staff. The HSC faculty and staff are committed to student-centered departmental and programmatic excellence. Two undergraduate degree programs are supported by Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability. The Environmental Health and Sustainability degree started in 1974 and is accredited through the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC). The Occupational Safety and Health degree started in 1971 and is accredited by ABET. The program is committed to providing extraordinary learning opportunities that prepare graduates to be in-demand professionals. The department is also home to seven other undergraduate degrees and a Master of Public Health degree program. Required Qualifications
1) A doctorate in environmental health, occupational safety and health, or commensurate field. Exceptional candidates with an expected completion of their doctoral degree before May 15, 2025 will be considered.
2) Illinois state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
