Job Summary:


The Laboratory Manager must be team oriented, proactive, and goal driven. This position manages and oversees all processes involved in the daily operations of the Laboratory necessary to meet client needs, quality objectives, financial productivity, employee requirements and directives in a manner that will maximize productivity, accuracy, and profitability of the lab.


Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical, operational, and administrative leadership through planning, allocation and management of personnel and equipment resources;
  • Assist lab QA department in assuring accuracy and precision of lab data;
  • Supports sales, marketing, and business development activities through identification and development of new markets, methods and procedures, and the overview of management of client services;
  • Provide support to section supervisors through resource allocation and coaching on a daily basis in an effort to facilitate SPL’s ability to meet daily production demands and client commitments;
  • Assist Project Management and sales staff in resolving client related issues and formulating responses;
  • Provides pricing, lab capability assessments - capacity updates, and technical advice on quotes and proposals;
  • Assist budget and procurement groups in tracking financial information and performance in the budget process;
  • Oversee continued development and performance of the lab’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);
  • Primarily responsible for throughput and financial performance of a single lab;
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees;
  • Maintains staff performance and productivity by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results;
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies;
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a supervisory or manger capacity; 
  • Communicate effectively - both verbally and in writing;
  • Must be knowledgeable with API, GPA, ASTM testing methods and standards.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry or science-related field

Relocation:

This position is not eligible for relocation.

Travel Requirements:

This position does require some travel.

Work Schedule:

This position will work 8 hours, Monday-Friday in the Anchorage, AK Environmental Laboratory. This position is subject to after-hours and weekend availability to meet deadlines.
