Our client is looking for a Senior Sustainability Lead in Toronto, ON. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated sustainability focused professional to work as a part of our global team. You will have the potential to travel to Europe, Asia and throughout North America, as well as a competitive compensation and health benefits package.

The majority of your time will be spent working with high-profile clients and global brands in the visioning, road mapping, and execution of their decarbonization, wellbeing and sustainability programs and strategies – for both individual offices and portfolio level clients.

As a key member of the global team, you’ll also have a directive to refine and establish their internal offerings and participate in their SBTi and ESG programs. The market need and the company goals and priorities will continue to evolve to be an active participant in mitigating climate change; your expertise and foresight will be crucial in supporting and guiding the global team to meet these changing and, at times, new demands. With the evolution of what we need to be offering clients, educating their design and delivery teams regularly is of upmost importance. Supporting offices to implement and vet solutions in their own “Living Lab” offices is a main objective of this role.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the North American sustainability and wellness business. You will be responsible for the sustainable growth of the business unit through excellent project delivery, team development, and coordination with North American leadership.
  • Continue to grow the Sustainability team as needed to manage project load , keeping in mind the future business forecast.
  • You will lead the effort to integrate and align the client’s workspace with the client’s sustainability programs including but not limited to defining and achieving emission reduction objectives, net zero goals, setting and validating official Science Based Targets (SBTI) and other decarbonization and wellness pathways.
  • Work with internal teams as a stakeholder to improve ESG and sustainability operations.
  • Collaborate with architecture, design, strategy and engineering teams to develop best-in-class sustainable design standards, working to institutionalize sustainable, low carbon design in all areas of the business.
  • Keep up to date on any developments in carbon reporting and communicate decarbonization strategy with both regional office leadership and global leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering and Smart Building teams to design and specify cutting-edge building systems that prioritize low carbon emissions, high operational efficiency, and enhance occupant well-being and satisfaction.
  • Educate and advise company teams on sustainability trends in energy and carbon management.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other sustainability organizations, regulatory entities, vendors and product/service companies.
  • Use expertise on sustainability to develop new client relationships and expand existing relationships by delivering strategic consulting advice, excellent value, and quality service.
  • Support business development efforts including responding to client RFPs for new projects, and participating in client interviews and pitch presentations, as required.
  • Travel to client projects, other offices, and industry events, as required.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior team members, supporting build-out of the team.


Qualifications & Key Competencies:


  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in a relevant field: sustainability, environmental, science, environmental engineering, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in delivering sustainable building consultancy for clients is essential, including the areas of energy and carbon (Net Zero Emissions), water, waste, circular economy, and sustainability certifications (e.g. LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Zero Carbon, RESET etc.)
  • Confident leading a team and experience mentoring junior team members, including providing career direction and advice.
  • Experience responding to RFPs, developing fees for projects and participating in client interviews.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation and sustainability issues.
  • Knowledge of sustainable sourcing procedures (e.g. C2C, FSC timber chain of custody)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all types and levels of professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Health & Safety awareness.
