Job Description

The successful candidate will work full-time at a customer location, with responsibility for execution of environmental compliance tasks to support the customer’s environmental plans, permits and programs. The primary responsibilities will be management and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Candidate must be familiar with, and have experience in, waste characterization, accumulation, shipping and reporting requirements, to meet all federal, state and local regulations.   The candidate will interact with and take direction from the customer’s EHS department.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Acts as daily point of contact with customer and outside entities for environmental compliance activities
  • Monitor waste accumulation areas, assisting as needed with identification, segregation, profiling, labeling and staging
  • Assist with waste characterization of various waste streams
  • Plan and schedule waste shipments, to ensure internal deadlines are met
  • Complete waste shipments in a compliant manner (e.g. all items packaged, marked and labeled properly, prepare shipping paperwork).  Ensure all local, State, and Federal requirements are adhered to.
  • Work with on-site teams daily to monitor waste and recycling programs and maintain swaps and pickups as needed.
  • Facilitate and/or conduct compliance inspections in the plant, and implement corrective actions based on results of compliance inspections.
  • Performs other environmental tasks such as storm water and air permit monitoring and inspections
  • Reports and responds to plant emergencies as needed in conjunction with EHS management
  • Prepare and provide of customer data, metrics and/or reports as required
  • Internally support and monitor customer requirements, to ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are met/exceeded.
  • Lead and support efforts to increase and sustain sustainable solutions for customers to meet their internal ESG goals
  • Attends customer meetings and trainings as needed, to ensure objectives are met.

Qualifications

Basic Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree coupled with 5+ years of work experience in a related role
  • High level of Customer Service acumen and business acumen.
  • Experience in waste and recycling service industry
  • Experience in logistics/transportation industry
  • High degree of competency in DOT, RCRA, EPA and OSHA regulations
  • Self-directed, with the ability to meet customer deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in details
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental studies or biology.
  • Work experience with waste characterization, waste handling logistics, and profiling, demonstrating familiarity with EPA/RCRA, and DOT regulations.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce and Oracle systems is a plus.
  • Experience administering and reviewing service contracts.
  • Ability to lead account-specific projects.
  • Physically able to traverse large facility with busy forklift traffic, through narrow aisles, and ability to access locked fenced areas.
