Program/Department Information

The Department of Chemistry and the Environmental Studies programs on the Queens campus of St. John's University, located in New York City, is seeking applicants for a one-year full-time contract faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank, with the possibility of renewal.  We are specifically looking for scholars with experience teaching: environmental justice, introduction to sustainability, natural resource management, environmental geography, and general chemistry. The Department of Chemistry and Environmental Studies Programs are eager to attract candidates that represent the rich diversity of the students and communities we are proud to serve in the New York Metropolitan area.

 

Responsibilities

The Program/Department is looking for candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching using simulations software and techniques for real data analysis, via face-to-face, online, and hybrid modes. Our faculty engage in professional and program development and assessment, and service to the University and broader community. Professional activities including presentations, research, and community engagement are expected. Active participation in university, college, department, and program events and committees are required. 

 

Qualifications

Candidates should have a terminal degree in environmental science, environmental studies, or chemistry with environmental experience. Teaching and/or research-based teaching experience at the university level is required. Preference will be given to candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, and be able to integrate technology into teaching face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities. Candidates must show evidence of teaching excellence, professional and scholarly activity, student engagement and a strong commitment to service.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $71,500. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
